Shasta Lake: The Complete Package

Nature, adventure, sights, relaxation? Shasta Lake checks all the boxes.

Located in Redding, CA, Shasta Lake is part of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. With a mountainous backdrop, and a tree lined shoreline surrounding crystal clear water, there's no limit to the fun to be had here.

Summers are warm and sunny, reaching up to 100 degrees with a water temperature in the mid-high 70's. Late summer is a great time to visit as well, with a reprieve from the temperatures and peak summer pricing.

With 12 Houseboats to choose from, between 3 Marinas, there's no doubt you'll be able to find something that suits your group's needs, style, and budget.

Take your houseboat to a secluded cove or beach to call home, and choose your own adventure: explore the area by paddleboard or kayak, or just jump right into the water from the houseboat! Most houseboats have a slide on the top deck, which will provide hours of good times whether you're 5 or 50. Check out Watercraft & Water Toy Rentals, these waters are perfect for watersports, enjoy wakeboarding, waterskiing, jet skiing. Whatever strikes your fancy, you can't go wrong!

Fishing: Shasta Lake is the top fishing lake in California with both warm and cold water species! There are over 20 species of fish in these waters: land-locked King Salmon, Rainbow and Brown Trout, Small and Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Catfish, Panfish, and even Sturgeon!

  • The best fishing for Large and Smallmouth Bass, Catfish and Crappie is June-August, Trout are in deeper water. September-November is great for Trout fishing as the water cools; Bass, Catfish, and Crappie are still good catches this time of year as well. Fishing Tips

Wildlife: Above the water's surface, you may spot other local residents: Black Tailed Mule Deer, Black Bear, Bald Eagle, and Osprey.

Sightseeing: If you haven't been to the Lake Shasta Caverns National Natural Landmark, it is not to be missed. On the north end of the lake on the McCloud River Arm, these caves full of limestone formations are 250 million years in the making, and only accessible by boat. There are daily tours

Natural Waterslide: Tucked at the end of Little Backbone Creek on the western end of the lake, across from Digger Bay. A scenic 20 minute hike past a series of sparkling clear ponds ends in a refreshing splash down the rock slide. **Use caution as rocks can be slippery**
