Introducing Lake Cumberland Floathouzzes!
This Utah based team traveled to Kentucky for a weekend on the lake to check out the newest additions to our website: the Floathouzzes on Lake Cumberland , one of the most popular houseboat destinations in the country!
There are four Floathouzzes situated on the dock at Lake Cumberland Marina in an area formerly known as "Alligator I." Two of the Floathouzzes are "Tiny" (each sleeps up to 10) and two are "XL" (each sleeps up to 16). Different from your run-of-the-mill houseboat experience, the Floathouzzes give you that on-lake experience without having to worry about driving or mooring a large vessel. We understand the concept can be daunting, and can be difficult for small or older groups. There's no guess work here. Everything's all set up, the Floathouzzes are connected to shore power and plumbing, so there's no fuel charge or emptying/refilling of tanks.
The four of us stayed on the Blue XL Floathouzz. It can sleep 16; there's a main bedroom with a King bed, a lower stateroom with 2 Queens, and a lower cuddy with 2 Queens, there's also a loft that's perfect for kids with 3 Queens and 1 Twin.
Perks of a Floathouzz:
You don't have to drive it or park it
No fuel charge; electric is connected to shore power
Swim right off the back platform; the steps and gradual ladder make it easy
Tie your watercrafts directly to the cleats on the back patio
Valets on golf carts are on site to help drive you and your belongings to/from the Floathouzz
Notable Features:
- Hot Tub
- Unobstructed lake view
- Full Kitchen
- Wifi
- Easy lake and land access
We got a pontoon from Lake Cumberland Marina, which had a slide and a grill - everything you need for a day out on the water. Catch your lunch and grill it without having to go back to the Floathouzz, and the kiddos can slide into the water from the upper sun deck.
Restaurants:
Stopping at restaurants along the lake is unrealistic by houseboat; we always recommend you do so with a smaller vessel such as a pontoon or powerboat.
Lake Cumberland Marina's Gator Grill is a short boat ride away, with great burgers, pizza, wings, and convenience items such as ice, beverages, snacks, and gifts.
A little further out is Fishtales, a restaurant at Wolf Creek Marina that's accessible by boat. You can enjoy lake views from the tiki pavilion with your lunch or dinner.
Or, if you need a change of scenery, nearby Russell Springs and Jamestown have several restaurants when your cooks need the night off, within 20-30 minutes from the marina. Heather recommends the margarita flight at Reel Java in Jamestown, and dessert is a MUST.
We loved the lake views, enjoying the morning light with our coffee on the back patio, relaxing in the water. Early September was a great time to visit, the trees were just starting to get some color and the weather was great. There was some rain here and there, but otherwise a perfecty beautiful time on the water.
