What to Do on a Houseboat Vacation
A question we are asked often is: "What is there to do once we're out on the lake?" One of our favorite things about a houseboat vacation, is that you can be as lazy or as crazy as you like! Be inventive. Try something new, or do something you haven't done in a while. After all, it's your vacation!
For some, a great way to spend a houseboat vacation is out on the top deck of your houseboat reading a good book. For others, waterskiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing and tubing are high on the "to do" list, but some prefer a slower pace exploring the area in a kayak, canoe or on a paddle board. Honestly, the possibilities are endless.
Some lakes, such as Voyageurs National Park, Rainy Lake, and Norris Lake require you to have a runabout with your houseboat rental as a safety precaution. Most of these marinas provide them either free or for a minimal fee.
Perhaps you're a fool for fishing. Bring your gear along with you, because fishing is great! Types of fish will differ with each location, but anglers of all ages and experience levels are sure to bring home stories of triumph over legendary giants or "the one that got away." Generally, bait can be purchased at or nearby most marinas, and some marinas sell fishing licenses. As some lakes or rivers cross over a couple states or countries, you will want to be aware if you need multiple fishing licenses.
These thrill seekers tapped into their wild side on a Lake Powell Houseboat along with "The Blob," an inflatable giant with the power to send its subjects flying over 50 feet in the air!
