Houseboating with Disabilities
Houseboating can be enjoyed by all demographics including the disabled with a few precautions and some extra planning.
Precautions:
Most houseboats vary in width from 14 feet up to 18 feet. This means that often the hallways are not wide enough for a wheelchair.
Many houseboat bedrooms may have a few steps either up or down to the sleeping areas.
Suggestions:
Some houseboat models are made with handicap accessible and safety features such as: ramps, elevators, wider hallways, bars in the bathroom and roll-in showers.
Houseboat models marked “XT” or “Universal” may have some of these features.
